A Google Ads landing page should deliver exactly what the ad promised, on a fast mobile page with one clear next step: call, WhatsApp, form or checkout. Google rates landing page experience on how relevant and useful the page is to people who click, and a weak page drags down ad quality while you pay for clicks that don’t convert.
If every ad points to your homepage, visitors have to hunt for the service they searched for. A dedicated page per service or offer removes that hunt, but it must also pass Google’s destination policies or the ads won’t run.
Start with the checklist table, then work through message match, page anatomy, speed, policy checks and build notes for WordPress, Elementor and Shopify. If the campaign isn’t set up yet, begin with our Google Ads guide for beginners.
Key takeaways
- Send each ad group to a page about that exact service or product; the homepage is rarely the best Google Ads landing page.
- Google judges landing page experience on relevance, useful content, easy navigation and whether the page delivers what the ad promised.
- Put the headline, proof and a call, WhatsApp or form action on the first mobile screen, and ask only for details you need.
- Make sure Google’s AdsBot can load the page from the US and your target countries, or your ads may be disapproved.
- Track form submits, calls and WhatsApp taps as conversions before you judge whether a landing page works.
What makes a good Google Ads landing page?
A good landing page answers the search behind the ad, proves you can deliver, and makes one action easy on a phone. Use this table as your pre-launch checklist.
| Check | What good looks like | How to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Message match | Headline repeats the service, product or offer from the ad | Read the ad, then the page’s first screen |
| One goal | One main action; no full site menu competing for the click | Count the links on the first screen |
| First mobile screen | Headline, proof and a call, WhatsApp or form button, with no pop-up covering them | Open the page on a real phone |
| Trust | Real reviews, photos of your work or team, service area, credentials | Confirm every claim is true |
| Short form | Only the fields you need, plus a note on what happens next | Submit a test lead |
| Call and WhatsApp | Tap-to-call link and a WhatsApp link with the country code | Tap both on a phone |
| Mobile speed | Core Web Vitals pass: LCP within 2.5 s, INP 200 ms or less, CLS 0.1 or less | PageSpeed Insights, Search Console |
| AdsBot access | Page loads for Google’s AdsBot from the US and your target countries | Ad policy status; firewall and robots.txt rules |
| Same domain | Final URL on the display URL’s domain, with no redirect elsewhere | Open the final URL and watch the address bar |
| Tracking | Forms, calls and WhatsApp taps recorded as conversions; gclid kept through redirects | Google Tag Assistant; add ?gclid=test to the URL |
| Landing page experience | Average or Above average on your main keywords | Landing Page Exp. column |
What does Google mean by landing page experience?
Google defines landing page experience as how relevant and useful your landing page is to people who click your ad. It’s one of the three Quality Score components, alongside expected clickthrough rate and ad relevance.
Each component is rated Above average, Average or Below average against advertisers whose ads showed for the exact same search over the last 90 days. Google’s Ad Rank documentation says it weighs the page’s usefulness and relevance, whether it meets the ad’s promise, and how easy it is to navigate.
Quality Score is a diagnostic, not an auction input, but the auction does use real-time ad quality, including your landing page, to set Ad Rank. A weak page can cost you position and push up what you pay.
To check your rating, go to Campaigns → Keywords, open the columns menu, expand Quality score and add Landing Page Exp. A dash means there aren’t enough exact searches yet to rate it.
Google’s own fixes: send people to the page that features what they searched for, keep the message consistent from ad to page, make the page mobile-friendly and speed it up. The exact search phrase doesn’t need to appear word for word.
How do you match the landing page to the keyword and ad?
Build one landing page per ad group theme, so the searcher’s words, the ad’s promise and the page headline line up. That alignment feeds two Quality Score components: ad relevance and landing page experience.
| Search term | Ad headline | Landing page headline | Main action |
|---|---|---|---|
| emergency plumber islamabad | 24/7 Emergency Plumber in Islamabad | Emergency plumbing repairs across Islamabad, day or night | Call now |
| black abaya with pockets | Black Abayas With Pockets | Black abayas with pockets, sizes and delivery times | Add to cart or order on WhatsApp |
| payroll software for small business | Payroll Software for Small Teams | Run payroll for teams of 5 to 50 without spreadsheets | Book a demo |
| wedding photographer lahore price | Wedding Photography Packages, Lahore | Packages with prices and sample albums | Check your date on WhatsApp |
Three rules keep message match honest: carry the ad’s offer, price or location onto the page; use the searcher’s language, not internal jargon; and split ad groups that mix intents, such as repair and installation, into separate pages.
Only promise what you deliver: if nobody answers at night, don’t advertise 24/7. And with AI Max, final URL expansion can send clicks to other pages on your domain, so keep every service page ad-ready or exclude it.
What should a lead-generation landing page include?
Five blocks, in this order: a headline that repeats the promise, proof, a main action, decision details, and the action again at the bottom.
- Headline and subheading: the service, the place and the main benefit, plus one specific, true differentiator such as response time or a warranty.
- Proof: real review excerpts, photos of your team or work, certifications and your service area.
- Main action: call, WhatsApp and form options on the first mobile screen, with the one you want most made most prominent.
- Decision details: what’s included, starting prices or ranges if you can share them, the process, areas served and hours.
- Objections and a repeat action: short answers on cost, timing and guarantees, then the action buttons again.
Remove the main site menu or cut it to your logo, phone number and a few on-page links. Keep your privacy policy and contact details in the footer, because people look for them before sharing details.
How short should the form be?
Ask only for what you need to respond: usually a name, a phone or WhatsApp number and one qualifying question, such as the service or area. B2B and high-ticket services are the exception, where a question on budget or company size filters out leads you can’t serve.
- Use dropdowns or buttons instead of free text where you can.
- Say what happens next, such as “We’ll call you within two working hours”, and only promise times you can meet.
- Send people to a thank-you page with its own URL, which makes conversion tracking simpler.
Call and WhatsApp buttons
Use a tel: link for the call button and WhatsApp’s click-to-chat link for the WhatsApp button: the full international number with no plus sign, zeros, brackets or dashes. A pre-filled message tells you which ad the lead came from.
Call button (example):
tel:+92XXXXXXXXXX
WhatsApp button with a pre-filled message (example):
https://wa.me/92XXXXXXXXXX?text=Hi%2C%20I%20saw%20your%20ad%20for%20AC%20repairPakistan note
A Pakistani mobile number written 03XX XXXXXXX becomes 923XXXXXXXXX in a WhatsApp link: add the 92 country code and drop the leading zero. Track WhatsApp taps as a conversion too, or Google Ads can’t learn from those leads.

How fast should a Google Ads landing page load on mobile?
Fast enough to pass Core Web Vitals on mobile: Largest Contentful Paint within 2.5 seconds, Interaction to Next Paint of 200 milliseconds or less, and Cumulative Layout Shift of 0.1 or less, measured at the 75th percentile of visits.
Google’s ads help lists loading speed among the main fixes for a weak landing page experience, and every slider, background video and script adds load time.
- Use one compressed WebP or AVIF hero image sized for mobile instead of a slider or background video.
- Set image width and height so the layout doesn’t jump while loading.
- Delay chat widgets, heatmaps and other third-party scripts until after the main content, or drop unused ones.
- Use caching and a CDN, then test the live page in PageSpeed Insights on the mobile tab and on a mid-range Android phone over mobile data.
Our article on why slow sites lose customers covers measurement and fixes in depth. Inside Google Ads, the Landing pages report under Campaigns → Insights and reports also shows a mobile-friendly click rate for each page.
Why do Google Ads get disapproved because of the landing page?
Usually because Google’s AdsBot can’t load the page, the domain doesn’t match the ad, or the page is hard to use. These fall under Google’s destination requirements policy, and a disapproved ad won’t run until you fix the problem. Serious or repeated policy problems can suspend the whole account; our guide to a suspended Google Ads account covers the appeal.
| Policy issue | Typical cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Destination not working | 404, 403 or 500 errors for AdsBot, an under-construction page, broken redirects or timeouts | Fix the error, then edit and resubmit the ad |
| Destination not accessible | Geo-blocking, a firewall or security plugin, or robots.txt rules blocking AdsBot | Allowlist AdsBot-Google and AdsBot-Google-Mobile; keep the page reachable worldwide |
| Destination mismatch | Final URL on a different domain from the display URL, or a redirect or shortener to another domain | Use a final URL on your own domain with no cross-domain redirects |
| Destination experience | Hard-to-navigate pages, intrusive ad experiences, or links that download a file or open an email | Remove intrusive pop-ups; link to a web page, not a PDF |
| Insufficient original content | Pages that mostly show ads, copy other sites or only send people on | Add original information about your offer |
| Unverified or unacceptable phone number | A call asset number that isn’t verified, in service or local to the targeted country | Use an active local number that belongs to your business |
Google notes that AdsBot often crawls from the United States, so blocking foreign traffic or letting a security plugin challenge unknown bots can get ads disapproved even though the page works for you. Violations bring a warning at least seven days before any account suspension. If a disapproval won’t clear, our Google Ads specialists can review it.
How do you build the page in WordPress, Elementor or Shopify?
You don’t need a separate tool: WordPress with Elementor and Shopify can both produce a focused, fast page on your own domain. Dedicated landing page builders also work if the page sits on your domain or a subdomain.
WordPress and Elementor
- In Elementor’s Page Settings, set Page Layout to Elementor Canvas, which hides the theme header and footer so you can add a minimal header of your own.
- Save the finished page as a template for the next campaign.
- Keep the page out of your menus. If it duplicates a service page, you can noindex it with Yoast SEO or Rank Math; that doesn’t stop AdsBot checking it.
- Have your developer confirm that security plugins, Cloudflare rules and hosting firewalls don’t block AdsBot.
Shopify
- Go to Online Store → Themes → Edit theme, open the template drop-down, choose Pages and select Create template, keeping only the sections you need.
- Assign it under Online Store → Pages with the page’s Theme template drop-down.
- For Shopping and product ads, the product page is the landing page: show price, delivery time, cash on delivery if offered, returns and reviews near the Add to cart button.
Set up tracking before launch
Record form submissions, calls and WhatsApp taps as separate conversion actions and keep auto-tagging on. If your site uses redirects, Google warns that the gclid click ID must reach the final page or conversions go untracked. Our guide to Google Ads conversion tracking covers each setup.
Before and after: rebuilding one landing page
A rebuild replaces a general page with one built for a single search. Here’s an illustrative example for an AC repair company in Lahore bidding on “AC repair DHA Lahore”.
| Element | Before | After |
|---|---|---|
| Destination | Homepage | A dedicated AC repair page for DHA Lahore |
| First mobile screen | Image slider and a generic welcome line | “Same-Day AC Repair in DHA Lahore”, a review rating, call and WhatsApp buttons |
| Lead capture | Contact form on a separate page | Three-field form on the page |
| Navigation | Nine-item menu | Logo, phone number and on-page links |
| Proof and pricing | Nothing above the fold; “contact us for a quote” | Real reviews, technician photos, inspection fee and typical repair price ranges |
| Speed | Heavy slider and several chat and tracking scripts | One compressed image; non-essential scripts removed |
| Tracking | Form fills only | Calls, WhatsApp taps and form fills tracked separately |
Afterwards, track the ad group’s conversion rate and cost per lead, how many leads become booked jobs, and the Landing Page Exp. status over the following weeks. Change one major element at a time if you want to know what worked.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use my homepage as a Google Ads landing page?
A homepage can work as a Google Ads landing page for brand searches, where people want your company rather than one service. For service or product searches, a homepage usually makes visitors hunt for what they searched for, so a dedicated page for each ad group theme is the safer choice for most campaigns.
Do I need a separate landing page for every keyword?
A separate landing page for every keyword isn’t necessary. Build one landing page per ad group theme, such as AC repair or AC installation, and group keywords that share the same intent. Create a new page when searches need a different offer, location or answer, not just because the wording of the keywords differs.
Should a Google Ads landing page be indexed by Google?
A Google Ads landing page doesn’t need to be indexed in Google Search to run ads, because Google’s AdsBot checks ad destinations separately. You can add a noindex tag to ad-only pages that duplicate a service page and keep the main service pages indexed for SEO. Never block AdsBot in robots.txt or with a firewall.
What is a good conversion rate for a Google Ads landing page?
There is no universal good conversion rate for a Google Ads landing page, because it depends on the industry, offer, price and how ready the visitor is to buy. Compare each landing page with your own baseline and judge it on cost per qualified lead or sale, since a page that converts less often can still win with better leads.
Can I use a Google Ads lead form instead of a landing page?
Google Ads lead form assets let people send their details straight from the ad without visiting your site, and they can be added to Search, Video and Display campaigns. Lead forms suit simple inquiries on mobile, while a landing page gives people more information before they commit. Test both if form leads turn out less qualified.
