WooCommerce in Pakistan: How to Set Up Your Store, Payments and COD

Set up a WooCommerce store for Pakistani customers: hosting and domain, the onboarding wizard, PKR settings, payment options that work locally, cash on delivery, shipping zones by province and launch checks.

Yes, you can run WooCommerce in Pakistan. It’s a free, open-source WordPress plugin that you install on your own hosting, so there’s no country restriction on using it. Payments are the part that differs: WooPayments doesn’t support Pakistan-based businesses, so the practical setup is a mix of cash on delivery, bank transfer and a local payment gateway.

This guide walks through the setup in the order you’ll do it: hosting and domain, installation, store settings in PKR, payments, cash on delivery, shipping zones and couriers, then plugins, security and launch checks.

Key takeaways

  • WooCommerce 10.8 and later needs WordPress 6.9, PHP 8.3, MySQL 8.0 or MariaDB 10.6, HTTPS and 256 MB memory.
  • PKNIC charges Pakistan-based registrants Rs 2,100 a year for a .pk domain from August 2026, billed in two-year periods.
  • WooPayments doesn’t support Pakistan-based businesses, so combine COD, direct bank transfer and a local gateway.
  • Set your currency to PKR and build shipping zones by province; WooCommerce already includes Pakistan’s provinces.
  • Before launch, place a test order with every payment method and set up backups, updates and caching.

Is WooCommerce available in Pakistan, and is it the right choice?

WooCommerce is available in Pakistan and costs nothing to install. You pay for hosting, a domain, a theme and any paid extensions, and you’re responsible for updates, security and backups. In return you own the site and can connect whatever local payment, courier and WhatsApp tools you need.

If you’re still choosing a platform, our Shopify vs WooCommerce comparison weighs cost, control and upkeep side by side. The rest of this guide assumes you’ve picked WooCommerce.

Step 1: What hosting and domain do you need?

You need WordPress hosting that meets WooCommerce’s current server recommendations, plus a domain. For WooCommerce 10.8 and later, WooCommerce lists:

  • WordPress 6.9 or later
  • PHP 8.3 or later (tested up to PHP 8.4)
  • MySQL 8.0 or later, or MariaDB 10.6 or later
  • HTTPS support and a WordPress memory limit of at least 256 MB

WooCommerce still runs on PHP 7.4 and MySQL 5.6, but those versions have reached end of life. Ask any host, local or international, which PHP version you’ll get and whether daily backups are included before you pay.

Should you use a .pk domain?

A .pk domain signals a Pakistani business. PKNIC, the .pk registry, offers several categories: plain .pk names need at least four characters before .pk, and .com.pk covers general businesses or individuals.

From August 1, 2026, PKNIC charges Pakistan-based registrants Rs 2,100 per domain per year and registrants abroad $15.99, billed in two-year periods. You can buy directly from PKNIC or through its authorized resellers. If you’ll sell abroad later, a .com may suit you better.

Step 2: How do you install WooCommerce and run the setup wizard?

In WordPress, go to Plugins, then Add New Plugin, search for WooCommerce, click Install Now, then Activate. The onboarding wizard opens automatically.

  1. Select Set up my store and choose the option that describes you, such as starting a business or already selling.
  2. Enter your store name, product type, store location (Pakistan and your city) and store email.
  3. Review the free features WooCommerce recommends and untick anything you don’t need; every extra plugin is something to maintain.
  4. Work through the setup checklist: Add your products, Set up payments, Customize your store, Collect sales tax, Select your shipping options and Launch your store.

Keep the store in Coming soon mode until you’ve finished the checklist and placed test orders.

Adding products for Pakistani shoppers

Use a simple product for single items and a variable product for anything sold in sizes or colors, so each variant has its own price, SKU and stock. For larger catalogs, the built-in CSV importer saves hours. Add weights and dimensions, which couriers and weight-based shipping plugins need, put size charts in both centimeters and inches, and turn on stock management: when you cancel an unconfirmed COD order, WooCommerce returns the items to stock automatically.

Step 3: Which store settings should you use for Pakistan?

Open WooCommerce, then Settings, then General. These choices control prices, where you sell and how tax and shipping are calculated.

SettingRecommended valueWhy
Store addressYour business address in PakistanTax and shipping calculations start from it
Selling location(s)Sell to specific countries: PakistanStops orders from places you can’t deliver to

Taxes, in general terms

If you charge tax, enable it under Taxes and coupons, then set rates under WooCommerce, then Settings, then Tax. Choose whether you enter prices inclusive or exclusive of tax, and keep the shop, cart and checkout display settings consistent to avoid rounding errors. WooCommerce itself advises checking your setup with a qualified tax professional; do that before launch.

Step 4: Which WooCommerce payment gateways work in Pakistan?

The WooCommerce payment gateway options in Pakistan fall into four groups. WooPayments, WooCommerce’s own gateway, isn’t among them: its supported countries don’t include Pakistan, although they do include the UAE and the UK, which matters if your business is registered there.

Mobile walletsJazzCash, for example, offers an online payment gateway for e-commerce merchantsAsk the provider for its current WooCommerce integration before you build around it
Payment options for WooCommerce stores in Pakistan

Enable direct bank transfer under WooCommerce, then Settings, then Payments, then Take offline payments. Because bank transfers need manual checking, confirm each deposit has cleared before you mark the order Processing and ship it.

A practical starting mix is cash on delivery plus bank transfer on day one, then a card or wallet gateway once your merchant account is approved. Show a small discount or free shipping for prepaid methods at checkout, because a buyer who has already paid has little reason to refuse the parcel.

Watch out

Before installing any gateway or courier plugin, open its WordPress.org page and check who publishes it, when it was last updated and which WooCommerce version it’s tested with. Some Pakistani payment plugins haven’t been updated in years, and one directory plugin named PostEx belongs to an Iranian company with a similar name, not the Pakistani courier.

Step 5: How do you set up cash on delivery?

Go to WooCommerce, then Settings, then Payments, then Take offline payments, enable Cash on Delivery and select Manage. Then set it up to protect you, not only to take orders:

  • Title and description: say that you’ll confirm the order by WhatsApp or phone before dispatch.
  • Instructions: state the total payable to the rider and your exchange policy.
  • Enable for shipping methods: offer COD only on the zones and methods where your courier performs well.
  • Accept for virtual orders: leave it unticked; there’s nothing to deliver.

WooCommerce’s core COD gateway can’t add a fee or restrict COD by order value. Plugins such as Smart COD for WooCommerce add an extra fee and conditions based on location and shipping method, and WooCommerce sells an Advanced Cash on Delivery with Fee extension. Refused parcels are the biggest COD cost; our guide on how to reduce RTO covers confirmation, fake-order filters and courier choice.

Step 6: How do you set up shipping zones and couriers?

Create zones under WooCommerce, then Settings, then Shipping, then Shipping zones, and select Add zone. WooCommerce already lists Pakistan’s provinces and territories, including Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Islamabad Capital Territory, Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Kashmir, so you can price by region without extra plugins.

ZoneRegionsMethods
Home cityYour province, limited to your city’s postcodesFlat rate, local pickup
Main provincesPunjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad Capital TerritoryFlat rate; free shipping above a set order value
Remote areasBalochistan, Gilgit Baltistan, Azad KashmirHigher flat rate
Example zone plan (replace the rates with your courier’s)

WooCommerce matches each customer to the first zone that fits, top to bottom, so put the most specific zone first. Postcode limits accept wildcards, such as 54* for postcodes starting 54.

For couriers, most Pakistani services give merchants a portal for booking, labels, COD tracking and payment reports. Start there. Add a plugin or API connection only once order volume justifies it, and only from the courier itself or a developer it endorses.

Step 7: Which plugins, security steps and launch checks do you need?

Keep the plugin list short: each one adds updates to manage and code that can slow the site. Most Pakistani stores need these, and little else:

  • Backups: automatic daily backups stored off the server, with a tested restore.
  • Security: a firewall and login protection, two-factor authentication for admins, and prompt updates.
  • Speed: page caching that excludes cart, checkout and account pages, plus compressed images.
  • SEO: an SEO plugin for titles, sitemaps and product structured data.
  • Customer contact: a WhatsApp chat button and order notifications.

Before you switch off Coming soon mode, place a test order with every payment method, check each order email, and run the checkout on a phone over mobile data. After launch, follow a routine such as our WordPress maintenance checklist, and make your products findable with our guide to ecommerce SEO for category and product pages.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to start a WooCommerce store in Pakistan?

Starting a WooCommerce store in Pakistan costs hosting, a domain, an optional premium theme and any paid extensions; the WooCommerce plugin itself is free. A .pk domain costs Rs 2,100 a year for Pakistan-based registrants from August 2026. Hosting and development costs vary widely, so compare written quotes that list what’s included, such as backups and updates.

Can I receive international payments on a WooCommerce store in Pakistan?

Receiving international card payments on a WooCommerce store in Pakistan depends on your payment provider, because WooPayments doesn’t support Pakistan-based businesses. Ask local gateways whether they accept foreign cards and settle in PKR or dollars. Businesses registered in a supported country, such as the UAE or the UK, can use WooPayments there.

Is WooCommerce better than Daraz for selling in Pakistan?

WooCommerce and Daraz serve different goals for Pakistani sellers. Daraz is a marketplace with built-in traffic and its own rules and fees, while a WooCommerce store is your own site, where you control branding, customer data and pricing but must bring your own traffic. Many sellers use a marketplace for reach and their own store for repeat customers.

Do I need a registered company to open a WooCommerce store in Pakistan?

WooCommerce itself doesn’t require a registered company in Pakistan, because anyone can install the plugin. Payment gateways and couriers usually ask for identity and business documents before opening a merchant account, and tax obligations depend on your business. Check each provider’s onboarding requirements and speak to a tax adviser before you start selling.

How long does it take to set up a WooCommerce store?

A basic WooCommerce store with a ready-made theme, a few products, cash on delivery and simple shipping zones can be set up in days. A store with custom design, many products, payment gateway approval and courier integration takes weeks, and merchant account approval is often the slowest step. Plan the timeline around those approvals.
