Business Not Showing on Google Maps? How to Find and Fix the Cause

A step-by-step diagnosis for businesses missing from Google Maps: how to test visibility properly, a troubleshooting table of causes and fixes, pin and label problems, and what to send Google support.

If your business is not showing on Google Maps, the cause is usually one of three things: the profile isn’t live (unverified, suspended, duplicate or waiting on an edit), it’s live but doesn’t rank for the search you tried, or it’s live without a visible pin or label. Identify which one you have before changing anything.

Google’s help pages confirm the basics. Only verified businesses show their information on Maps and Search, rankings for new businesses can take up to a month to appear, and edits can sit in review for up to 30 days. The rest comes down to how local results work.

Below you’ll find a proper way to test visibility, a troubleshooting table with the fix for each cause, and what to send Google support if nothing works.

Key takeaways

  • Search your business name plus city on Google Maps first: if the profile appears, you have a ranking problem, not a visibility problem.
  • Only verified profiles show on Maps and Search; suspended, disabled and duplicate profiles stay hidden until the issue is resolved.
  • Edits can stay in review for up to 30 days, and Google says new businesses can take up to a month to rank.
  • Local results depend on relevance, distance and prominence, so distant searchers may not see you for category searches.
  • Service-area businesses that hide their address show only a service area, so a missing pin is expected.

Is your business missing from Google Maps, or just not ranking?

Start by working out which of three problems you have, because each needs a different fix. Plenty of owners who search for “business not showing on Google Maps” actually have a live profile that simply doesn’t appear for the searches they tried.

SymptomWhat it usually meansWhere to look

How do you check whether your business shows on Google Maps?

Use the checks Google suggests, then remove the distortions caused by your own location and account. One search from your office desk tells you very little.

  1. On Google Maps, search your business name and city, for example “Crescent Dental F-7 Islamabad”. On Google Search you can do the same, or search my business while signed in to the managing account.
  2. Repeat the search signed out, or in a private window on another device. That removes your account history, but results still reflect location: Google says that when searchers don’t share where they are, it uses what it knows about their location.
  3. Ask a customer or colleague a few kilometers away to search the category you want to rank for and send you a screenshot.
  4. For a structured view, use a geo-grid rank tracker such as Local Falcon or BrightLocal, which checks your position for one keyword from many points around your address.
  5. If you’re verified, open Performance in your Business Profile. Views and the search terms people used show the profile is appearing for other people, even if you can’t see it.

Why isn’t my business showing on Google Maps? Causes and fixes

Work down the table in order. The first rows stop a profile appearing at all; the later rows decide whether it appears for a particular search.

Business not showing on Google Maps: causes, checks and fixes

Verified business not showing on Google Maps? Check these first

Verification is necessary but not sufficient. A verified profile can still be hidden if it’s restricted, treated as a duplicate, or mid-review after an edit.

  • Suspended or disabled: Google says a profile that violates its guidelines won’t show to other users until the issue is resolved. Our guide to a suspended Google Business Profile covers the appeal.
  • Duplicate: if Google treats your profile as a duplicate, it won’t show on Search or Maps. If two distinct businesses were merged by mistake, contact support to appeal; businesses sharing a location will be asked for evidence of permanent signage for both.
  • Someone else owns the original: if an older profile was verified by a former employee or agency, request ownership from its current owner. Google gives them 3 days to respond, and if they don’t, you may get the option to claim it.
  • Recent edits: after a name, category or address change, the public sees the old version until review finishes, and a move to a new address requires verification again.
  • New profile: rankings for new businesses can take up to a month to appear, according to Google.

Watch out

Don’t create a second profile to replace one that isn’t showing. Google allows one profile per business, a second listing is treated as a duplicate, and Google’s own advice for a business that moves is to update the existing profile’s address rather than start a new one.

If verification itself is the sticking point, our guide on how to verify a Google Business Profile walks through each method.

Why does my business show for its name but not for “near me” searches?

Because a name search and a category search are different tests. Your profile is the obvious match for its own name, but for “plumber near me”, Google ranks local results mainly on three factors.

  • Relevance: how well your profile matches the search. Your primary category, services and description need to reflect the words customers use.
  • Distance: how far you are from the searcher, which is why results change as you move around a city.
  • Prominence: how well known the business is, based partly on how many websites link to you and how many reviews you have.

Google also says there’s no way to request or pay for a better local ranking. So this is a ranking project, not a repair: our guide on how to rank higher on Google Maps covers the factors you control, and the Google Business Profile optimization checklist covers every field. If you’d rather hand it over, it’s part of our local SEO services.

Why is my business name or pin not showing on the map?

If your profile opens when you search for it but you can’t spot it on the map, it’s usually a display issue, not a penalty.

  • No label at this zoom level: Google Maps doesn’t label every place at every zoom level. Zoom in on your street; if the pin and name appear, the listing is fine.
  • No pin at all: Google says that if you hide your address, your profile shows only your service area, so there’s no pin to find.
  • Pin in the wrong place: an address entered loosely, or one Google couldn’t match, can leave the pin on the wrong building. Move it yourself using the steps below.
  • Old name still showing: a new name stays pending until Google reviews it, may be Not approved if it doesn’t match your signage, and can trigger verification again.

How do you fix a wrong pin or address?

Edit the location in your Business Profile and place the pin on your actual entrance.

  1. Go to your Business Profile and select Edit profile > Location.
  2. Next to Business location, select Edit and enter the full address, including building, suite or floor details.
  3. If Google can’t find the address, select Adjust, move the map until the pin sits on your business, then select Done and Save.
  4. Allow for review: Google says profile changes usually show in about 10 minutes but can take up to 30 days.

Pakistan note

Many Pakistani addresses use sectors, blocks, plots or markets rather than street numbers, for example Street 5, E-11/1, Islamabad. Google’s address guidelines allow nearby cross-streets or landmarks where the official address isn’t accurate, and let you pin the location manually when there’s no street number. Write the address the way customers and couriers use it, then check the pin sits on your building.

How do you contact Google Business Profile support?

Use the Contact us option in the Google Business Profile Help Center, and give support everything it needs in the first message.

  1. In the Business Profile Help Center, select Contact us, choose the issue closest to yours and complete the form.
  2. Include your Business Profile ID (under Business Profile settings > Advanced settings), the business name and address, screenshots of name-and-city searches, when the problem started and what you’ve already changed.
  3. If the first reply doesn’t solve it, reply to the same email thread rather than opening a new case.
  4. For a second opinion, post in the Google Business Profile Community with the same details, but never share passwords or verification codes.

Support can help with listing problems such as duplicates, wrong data and restrictions. It can’t move you up the rankings, since Google says rankings can’t be requested or bought. And if it’s your website, not your profile, that’s missing from Google Search, that’s an indexing problem covered in why your website isn’t showing on Google.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take for a new business to appear on Google Maps?

A new business can appear on Google Maps once its Business Profile is verified and any pending edits are approved. Google says edit reviews usually take minutes but can take up to 30 days, and that rankings for new businesses can take up to a month to show in search results. Complete every field while you wait so the profile is ready to rank.

Can I show my business on Google Maps without a physical address?

Yes, if the business visits or delivers to customers, it can use a Google Business Profile as a service-area business with the address hidden and service areas listed instead. Businesses that only operate online, such as online-only stores, aren’t eligible for a Business Profile. A virtual office address isn’t eligible either and can get a profile suspended.

Why did my business suddenly disappear from Google Maps?

A business usually disappears from Google Maps suddenly because its Business Profile was suspended, treated as a duplicate, or updated by Google after reports that its details were wrong. Check the Google Account that manages the profile for notifications, look for alerts in the Edit profile section, and open the appeals tool to see whether a restriction is listed.

Does a business need reviews to show on Google Maps?

No. Reviews are not a requirement for a Business Profile to appear on Google Maps; verification, eligibility and a policy-compliant profile are. Reviews do matter for ranking, because Google says prominence is partly based on how many reviews a business has, and more reviews and positive ratings can help local ranking.

Why does my business show on Google Maps on my phone but not on my computer?

Google Maps results depend on location, and a phone with location access usually gives Google a precise position while a computer may only give an approximate one. If the business is close to where the phone searches from, it can rank there but not in the area the computer appears to be in. Compare results signed out, from the same place.
